The Oak Tree on Texas Avenue, around the 1970s; The Oak Tree on Texas Avenue was once saved from the axe by Ross S. Sterling in the early 1900s.Its age has been estimated from 300 to 1,000 years old. The old tree has survived many attempts to destroy it, including a poisoning attempt in the fall of 1989.
