Typhoid fever and influenza were constant threats to refinery workers and local citizens. Dr. and Mrs. N. L. Dudley moved to the Baytown area in 1917. First settling in Pelly, the Dudleys later moved to Goose Creek and opened an office at the corner of Defee and Ashbel streets.
