View of the Houston and Goose Creek Auto-Line taken in 1923. Commonly called the “jitney” service, Webb Greer started the H&G C Auto-Line in 1919. It was much later to become the Bayshore Bus Company. Rates for the jitney service to Houston were $2.50 one-way or $5 round trip. The company advertised the trip to Houston would take only three hours when the weather was nice or half a day when muddy. At this time it was necessary to drive to Crosby or wait for the ferry at Lynchburg to make the trip to Houston. In the background over the hood of the car is Baytown’s first public outdoor telephone.
