This group of volunteers was founded by Dr. Ashbel Smith and drilled on his Evergreen Plantation. They mustered into the Confederate forces on August 13, 1861. The application for the historical marker is available courtesy of Trevia Wooster Beverly and the Harris County Historical Commission.
